"The first time I met Kristen I was at a photoshoot. I watched her for literally an hour immaculately applying make up to a young model. She even used 2 sets of fake lashes per eye. She finally completed her artwork and the model promptly puked - all her work being lost. I would have thrown a tantrum - but not miss Kristen. She was totally calm. After the recent Fashion Panel at the City Club, we had a few conversations about the wider fashion community (for lack of a better word) that includes the makeup artists, stylists, photographers, models, bookers, and more. We're not talking about them as much as we should, these critical players in PDX fashion. Arnett nails it on the head when she says that, "it is so important for designers/store owners (no matter what their budget) to find the best people they can to help make their clothes/store look fantastic in all photographic print materials."

'Fashionably inept' teen gains new confidence " --
Talk about a dramatic transformation.
When 19-year-old Portlander Kaleesa Thanasouk wrote to PS, she described herself as "fashionably inept" and asked us to help her create a more mature, businesslike but affordable style.
'I have no sense of style or fashion,' she said....
...[Thanasouk joined] the pilot program of Become X, a new program in Portland for young women. One of Thanasouk's first activities with Become X was to participate in its fashion show launch, and it was there that freelance makeup artist Kristen Arnett gave her a new countenance.
'She wanted to focus on her eyes,' Arnett said. 'So we played up her eyes with brighter colors and shimmer on her cheeks. She just started glowing.'
Even before she had strolled the catwalk, Thanasouk said she couldn't be happier with her new look.
'I'm loving it,' she said. 'It's like getting a second chance at everything. My confidence level has been raised, especially when I'm shopping.'
